by OneTaste Living Library Jul 18, 2014
Shaman Durek is a Los Angeles based spiritual guide and gifted healer. As a Shaman, he acts as mediator or “bridge” between the spiritual and physical planes, applies ancient spiritual wisdom, coupled with decades of devoted study and practice, to help bring success, happiness and healing into people's lives.
When he was 30, Shaman Durek experienced serious complications from an illness. Doctors at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital feared he would be left with brain damage and paralysis. Dedicating himself to his recovery, Durek applied his knowledge of healing and the mind-body connection to his recuperation; within a year, he had fully recovered. For Durek, this experience was an expected part of his life’s journey as a Shaman. “A true Shaman must go through many intense trials of pain and loss – some of which are life threatening – to develop the strength, belief, and conviction, I was able to survive a death-to-life transformative, it was my determination to reach my life’s goal: to teach people how to empower themselves by making spirituality more accessible daily.”
Today, Shaman Durek works with clients from all walks of life some of which include; Hollywood celebrities and insiders, musicians, CEOs of major corporations and European royalty. Shaman Durek works with clients on a one-to-one basis as well as in group sessions. At the age of 30 you were pronounced clinically dead. Can you please tell me more about that experience and how it lead to your career as a healer? My career as a healer started when I was 5 years old. A child is healing, is it not? Isnt
that why people choose to have children? This is a lifelong experience. As far as my
career, being a Shaman, and my death experience has given me the full potential of
understanding humility and humbleness and completing my rights of passage has made
it available to me to recognize that we must embrace everything that we experience and
everything that we are. As far as my career is concerned the people chose that for me,
Im just on the journey.
How do you feel people are best able to access their spirituality on a daily basis?Spirituality to me is not just doing yoga or meditating or praying it is about your connection
to your authenticity, it is about your openness to life. You could wake up every day and
make love to someone you care about and have a consciousness that is aware and in
that moment you are connecting to the source and in that moment you are awakening
possibility. Spirituality is not a method spirituality is in the act of being.
What is the best way for someone to effect positive change in the world?By not taking responsibility for how other people feel, by standing in the truth of who
they are, by focusing on the highest possibility, by not accepting anything in their life
that does not feel good, by them knowing that life and everyone in it is here ultimately to
help each other get to the authentic truth of love.
What’s your take on sexuality as it relates to power?I think sexuality is not sexuality in the way that I would see it. I see it more as a
communication, a conversation. And as for power I think the true source of power
is love. Any form of power that is used to get something and is used in forms of
manipulation and control is based in fear and therefore that is not power, that's fear.
Do you believe we can connect to the divine through sex?I don’t think that you are connecting through the divine through sex, I think the divine is
connecting through you. I see sex as a form of connection to the spirit and body which
allows you to experience yourself and awaken the possibility of joy, pleasure, elation,
ecstasy, and most importantly authentic freedom in your life.
What are your thoughts on Orgasmic Meditation?I think that orgasmic meditation in itself is a ritual of awakening the sleeper within and
in this day and age, where we are in our evolution, it is so necessary for people to love
themselves, to love others and to step into the clarity that we should have no fear of
ourselves and another person and I think through this meditational practice is doing just
that, bringing wholeness back to the self.
Do you have any advice for people facing a life changing crossroads? To step into the path that is most authentic, the one that they will feel the most fear
